Ok, I guess today’s adventures deserve a post.
So the initial weekend plan was to steal a wheelchair (or preferably an ambulance) and drive (a long way) to Lausanne to go see Ben Howard in concert. A stupid idea maybe, but VIP tickets thanks to Meena @ Quiksilver might have made it slightly more feasible despite the fact that I cant stay for more than an hour or so in a wheelchair without severe knee pain, we had nowhere to stay after the concert and I would have to back in hospital for 9am tomorrow morning.
When the concert was cancelled due to Ben Howard being ill, I admit that I was slightly relieved to not be taking on this slightly stupid challenge. Little did I realise that a relaxing visit from Sarah & Glenda would turn out to be way more dangerous…
We decided to go into ‘town’ for lunch… Hauteville-Lompnes is tiny and miles from anywhere so there was little choice. Town was deserted and pretty quirky. Lunch was great, my first proper meal for two weeks, great food & great company… but this sudden energy hit turned me back to my former self… an idiot!
After two weeks of being cooped up inside, with nothing to eat, my desire for an adrenaline rush got the better of me and I decided we should have a downhill wheelchair race down to the town square. Me racing against I’m not sure who? I got up quite a bit of speed and made no attempt to slow down… only to go faster. The road was pretty bumpy and I cant steer my wheelchair at the best of times… so totally out of control I hit the curb and literally went flying out my wheelchair. I cant remember much other than laying there giggling, squashed under my wheelchair. As this happened right in the town square it caused quite a scene amongst all the diners eating outside… so there were many more than Sarah & Glenda running to my rescue. Cringe!
Anyway, lesson learnt. I think the knee is ok. I’m so lucky, such an idiot, and 100% promise to be well behaved for the next 6 months (but at least I won the race and its all on video!).
